It's less about information and more about marking a moment.
Give it room.
Don't rush it.
Don't pack it with messages.
If you've been with this year group for a while, you are allowed to be human in this assembly.
You don't need to hold everything together.
Showing genuine feeling, about what this group has meant to you, about what they've been through, about what you believe is ahead of them, is not weakness in a Head of Year.
It's integrity.
Students can tell the difference between performance and honesty.
Honesty lands.
Opening (Slide 1, the door, 1.5 minutes) Show the image.
Say nothing for five seconds.
Then: "Doors are interesting things.
You can stand in front of one for a long time before you walk through it.
And the moment you do, you can't unsee what's on the other side." "What I want to do today is not give you a long list of advice or a speech about the future.
I want to mark a moment.
Because this is one.
